Good one EndofMysteries. I always love information like that. Working for the Historical Soc. for awhile the one thing I learned was "We need to know the history of the past so we don't repeat the mistakes people made back then." I know this will never happen for most people but I can only hope. Still Totally ADD

The WT and GB compared to Catholics before the reformation.
by EndofMysteries ini just read this article about luther and i'll quote a paragraph.
it's interesting how you can substitute a few words and see it identical to the wt.
now let me substitute pope and catholic church for governing body and watchtower...... .

So what if a sister or brother heard another sister or brother say a GB member said the big A is in the next few years!!! I was born in 1954 into this cult and from the time I was old enough to understand the Wt. has been saying the Big A is very near, just around the corner, 1975, before 2000, in just a few years. They have been crying wolf from the beginining. Misleding 1000's of people into thinking the world is about to end. The truth of the matter is for most of those on the GB their end is in just a few years. It's called death from old age. It's good to talk about this but sometimes this just sickens me when I hear about it. It is one of those cult teaching that will most likely stay with me until I die. Still Totally ADD

blondie that happen to me over 20 years ago. A Sister fell over of a heart attack about 15 mins. into my talk. Everyone in the hall got up or turn around to watch her. So I stop talking. After a few mins. the PO told me to keep on speaking. At first I refused but he kept after me to talk. So all I did was read word for word from the outline. It took me about 5 mins. to do that and I finished. I was so upset over this I complained to that body of elders about it. At this time they had no direction on this so they could not understand why I was upset. About 1 year later a letter came from the GB on this. It stated if someone becomes very sick or has a heart attack or something of that nature that disturbs the meeting then the meeting should be stopped and everyone is to go home or whatever. My first post: Pet Peeves from my JW past
by BarHarborBarbara infirst post here: longtime lurker but hesitant to take the leap.
my story is pretty much like everyone elses with little variance, but i thought id add a few details that especially tormented me when i was in.
im sure these are familiar, im afraid this is a bit of a rant.. --paradise: the constant chatter about a perfect world when most in the hall were not even slightly interested in taking care of the earth now.

Welcome to the bright side Barbara. You went out just enough to hate it. LOL I hated FS because I did not like bothering someone on Sat. morning. I wish after a hard week at work I could stay home and rest. Great first post. Keep up the good work. Now for your next post we want more information. LOL Just kidding. Thank you for coming on board. An important difference between atheists and true believers
by Hortensia intrue believers, whether christian, muslim or whatever, want to convert you, they want you to believe what they do, and they're willing to go to extremes to make it happen.
atheists don't really care what you believe, and don't go out of their way to convert someone.. http://ow.ly/vn1jz an example of what believers in power do to suppress any difference in thought.
http://ow.ly/vraeo an example of why believers want to suppress different ideas (because they can't win in a fair fight, that's why).

James Brown, It could be the Ex-JW's who have become atheists still cannot get out of the I am right thinking that was beaten into them while a JW. It takes time for all of us to get out of that thinking. I don't believe in anything but sometimes I fall into that trap of trying to convince someone that I am right. The one thing that does hold us together is we all know that Wt. is a cult if not a cult their teachings are all wrong or whatever. LOL The point is just give them all time and ask for proof if you want to debate them on the subject. Still Totally ADD

Did you count the time for your "hour talk"?
by compound complex inhi fellow speakers (sorry, brothers only!):.
my first public talk, given in my early 20s, was actually a twenty-minute part of a symposium talk.
my pioneer partner friend and i each had twenty minutes and a "servant" had the concluding part.

Dressed for Failure--drab colors in dress code
by WTWizard ini noticed that, especially for men, that they are required to dress in drab colors for boasting sessions and in field circus.
men are supposed to wear dirty colored suits--dark gray, muddy brown, black, and off-shades of maroon, forest green, and navy/midnight blue seem to be most common.
they get hounded if they wear something in a "loud" color--meaning anything that is near one of the major points in the rainbow and near saturation (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or violet is most likely to result in a major hounding).

All I know is I have not worn a tie in 3 years and I love it. I hated those things. Forced to wear one since I was a small child. I could care less what color it was. Just give me my blue jeans and a nice shirt I am happy. Still Totally ADD

July 2014 WT cracks down on apostate debates and 'dance parties'
by EndofMysteries inin the july 2014 study wt article titled "jehovah's people "renouce unrighteousness".
par 9 and 10 .
9. how did foolish and ignorant debates affect the early christian congregation?.

So the Wt. is saying that some in the early congregation was promoting apostate teachings. You mean they was not DF for doing that? They was allowed to openly talk about what they thought? Notice Paul was to reject such debates. Does not say anything about Dfing them out of the congregation. Oh I forgot the Wt. talks from both sides of their mouth. As far as dancing goes. We all know how evil dancing is. That is something fun to do and God does not want any of us to have any fun. LOL Still Totally ADD
